UPDATED: NISSAN NV200 WILL BE NAMED THE EVALIA MUV; DIESEL ENGINE ONLY TO BEGIN WITH!

Nissan-Ashok Leyland NV200 MPV

The Nissan NV200 MPV will be called the Evalia MUV for the Indian market. This MUV will use the 1.5 Liter DCi engine that is used on the likes of the Micra and the Sunny, although the state of tune of this engine remains under wraps for the moment. We’ll update this space in just a bit. Stay glued. Click on more for the update.

The Nissan Evalia MPV will take on the Mahindra Xylo, Toyota Innova and the Tata Grande. The Evalia will not get a petrol engine as diesels are an overwhelming majority when it comes to actual sales. So, Nissan has wisely chosen a diesel only approach with the Evalia.
Transmission will be by means of a five speed gearbox. The engine’s output is expected to be near about the 100 Bhp mark, with the K9K diesel engine in a similar state of tune to the Renault Fluence diesel sedan, which incidentally uses the same K9K engine with a variable geometry turbo.
That said, Nissan could play is safe by opting for the 85 Bhp state of tune that the K9K diesel engine develops as used in the Sunny Sedan. The MPV will be able to seat 7 people and its dimensions measure 4.4 meters in length, 1.88 meters in height and 1.69 meters in width. The MPV has a wheelbase of 2,745 mm.
The Evalia features sliding doors, and this would make ingress and egress a breeze, in the mould of Nissan’s “Drive Easy” philosophy. Nissan hasn’t revealed when exactly the Evalia MPV will begin selling in India although it shouldn’t be beyond mid 2012. Expect it to be priced at about 8 lakh rupees for the base model.
