TVS APACHE RTR UPGRADE ON THE CARDS?

The last big launch from Hosur based Indian motorcycle maker, TVS Motors was the ABS variant of the TVS Apache RTR180. The competition has since then moved on to offer more exciting offerings even as TVS has been dragging its feet on launching a higher capacity, high performance TVS motorcycle for reasons best known to itself. To keep its flagship motorcycle range, the Apache RTR line up fresh, TVS Motors might give the Apache a mid career makeover.

While rumors have began doing the rounds of TVS giving the Apache motorcycles a full fairing and other upgrades like a bigger engine, TVS Motors for its part remains mum on what it will launch as an upgrade of the Apache series of high performance motorcycles. This, even as speculations on the interweb point to the launch of the upgraded Apache RTR as early as the end of November, 2011.
The TVS Apache series of motorcycles are solidly engineered with most of their development taking place on the racetrack with TVS Motors being the only Indian motorcycle maker running an active racing program. The track bred lineage of the Apache RTR series of motorcycles has meant that superb handling and terrific throttle response has endeared the Apache RTR160 and RTR180 to many of its buyers.

While Apache RTR buyers, who have been willing to live with the smaller engine capacity of the Apache due to the superb handling and throttle response, the slightly higher asking price for the Apache in comparison of the competition has meant that sales staff at TVS dealerships are having a tough time to justify the lower number of features on the Apache RTRs, at a time when the competition is offering more for less.

This is said to be the major reason why TVS Motors is coming up with a mid carrer makeover for the Apache RTR series of motorcycles. On what the TVS Apache RTR will get if at all the makeover happens in the next few weeks or so is something we’ll have to wait and watch. We, for our part hope that TVS hastens its 200cc plus motorcycle plans to stay relevant in the Indian high performance premium motorcycle segment as there are a slew of 200-250cc motorcycles lined up for the coming months!
