2008 Jaguar X-Type

The Indian campaign for British car brand Jaguar began with the introduction of its premium offerings which were imported in to the country as CBUs. The present Jaguar line-up in India consists of the XF and the XJ saloon. Its been a few years since, Jaguar discontinued the X-Type but now, according to Autocar Jaguar is thinking on the lines of a similar car that will take on the entry-level premium sedans like the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4.

Also, the new car will be specially developed with focus on growing markets like India and China. The new X-Type is expected to be ready by 2015 with production kicking-off in the UK and India! Since, the Tatas took over the reigns at Jaguar-Land Rover, the car maker has been aggressively building infrastructure in the country with future expansion and market penetration in mind. The car maker recently began assembling the Freelander 2 SUV at its unit near Pune, India.

Over a period of time Jaguar too will start assemblies in India which will significantly drop the prices of their cars. This will prove to be a big step for the company which will also help them increase their market share. Jaguar will begin assemblies before the revived X-Type sedan makes its debut since it will be crucial for the car maker to keep the cost of production low for a car that will be offered in a segment which has seen cut-throat competition in the past.
That said, the new car is expected to arrive with a 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engines mated to a new 9-speed automatic gearbox. The exterior styling is expected to be in line with current family trends. Aerodynamics of the car will also be tuned for better fuel economy again, a factor that will be governed by government norms of the day. Jaguar car have always been special. Jaguars are for those with a unique taste in cars, those buyers who want something more than what the usual German brands offer. All we can say is, bring it on!
