The much awaited 2012 Honda CR-V is coming to the Los Angeles Auto show later this year and Honda has promised that the car will debut as planned before. The devastating floods in Thailand had raised doubts over the launch of the new CR-V. However, Honda has played down the baseless speculations and announced that the CR-V will in fact arrive as planned. Which is good news if you are in the United States since, the 2012 Honda CR-V will be launched for the American market to start with.
That said, Honda recently invited select publications for a media drive in Detroit, USA and folks at Brenda Priddy & Co. were only obliged to grab a sneak-peek of the new CR-V sans any camouflage. As we’ve seen before, the new CR-V has grown in size and looks more of a proper SUV than a soft-roader. The front resembles the concept which Honda revealed earlier in the year. The slightly swollen wheel arches and the defining lines along the sides give the SUV a much masculine look than before. More than that, the overall design is even more imposing which should make it especially popular among the Indian masses.
Inside, there is the usual well-built interior with descent plastics. The dashboard isn’t as futuristic and flashy like that on the previous generation Civic but does go pretty well with the exterior styling. That said, you do get two info-display screens with one for the Music system. Again, buttons are neatly laid out and minimal. The steering wheel has been redesigned and gets controls for basic on-board functions including volume, menu navigation and most probably voice control. So overall, the CR-V seems to be a very interesting SUV and I think could do well in India with a diesel engine under the hood.
