Mahindra & Mahindra could be very close to unveiling the Ssangyong Rexton SUV in India. It is believed that Mahindra could reveal the car at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo along with the Korando C crossover. Compared to the Korando, the Rexton is a much larger SUV. That said, the Korando could be the first Ssangyong to arrive on Indian soil. The Rexton is expected to follow with launch slated for the second half of 2012.
While are in-house spies were travelling across the state of Maharashtra they were lucky enough to spot a completely undisguised Ssangyong Rexton. If you are a regular reader of IndianCarsBikes.in you might know how the Rexton looks like. Still here are a couple of images that our team photographers were able to grab. The Rexton was parked near a petrol bunk with Nashik registration plates. Of course, it isn’t surprising for a Mahindra test car to have Nashik plates since the car maker has its assembly units based at Nashik, Maharashtra.
Having said that, this particular SUV might not be used as a test vehicle. Instead, it could be a car used by company officials since it had been registered already. Now, the Mahindra-Ssangyong Rexton might debut in India with a 2.7 litre turbocharged common-rail diesel engine under the hood which is good for 184 PS of maximum power and a massive 402 Nm of torque. The diesel motor would be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. An automatic option could also be available at a later date. As I said before, the Rexton is much larger than the Korando C hence it could be priced upwards of Rs 17 lakh.
