General Motors, Europe is testing what looks like a compact MPV. Although, there hasn’t been any news about such a car coming to India this didn’t stop us from wildly speculating about the possible consequences of such a product entering into the Indian market. For a moment consider that GM India will bring this car to the subcontinent. The compact MPV would then rival similar products like the Mahindra & Mahindra Xylo and the Toyota Innova. You see, it does make sense right?
Further more, imagine a MPV based on the Chevrolet Aveo. Sounds quite possible given the popularity of MPVs like the Xylo and the Innova a competing product from the stables of Chevrolet might work in India. That said, the seven seat layout would make it a worthy contender to take on the likes of the Toyota and the Mahindra. From the spy shots that we’ve managed to get hold of it does look quite a capacious vehicle. The design too is pretty simple with clean lines across the profile of the vehicle, much like the Aveo sedan.
Let’s peek under the hood now, shall we? But, before we let our imagination go haywire, let me reiterate that whatever I’ve said up till now and all that’s yet to come is all pure speculation. Now, getting on with the job at hand, if I were to have a punt, Chevrolet might use the 2.0 litre TCDi diesel engine with 125.5 PS or maximum power and 305 Nm of torque. Sounds good for a seven seat MPV, then. I don’t see a petrol version being viable for India in today’s scenario and hence let’s just concentrate on the diesel.
Having said that, here is a MPV that has the potential to take on the mighty Toyota Innova or the Xylo. Toyota is upgrading the Innova and will be launching the new facelift version soon. Mahindra too is coming with a shorter version of the Xylo. We Indian’s might not be too fond of station wagons but we sure do like the idea of a spacious people carrier, don’t we?
