Swedish car makers Volvo have released new sketches of the next generation XC90 SUV and all we can say is, its brilliant! The first renders of the car that might come out in 2014 look promising enough thanks to its modern lines and those striking head lights. Volvo designers surely have had their work cut out while designing the next generation of the world’s safest automobiles. The Volvo XC90 is the Swedish car maker’s top-of-the-line SUV which has been giving a tough fight to the Range Rover, lately.
The new concept SUV does borrow a few design cues from other Volvo concepts. The grille for instance, is more or less like that on the Volvo Concept Universe. The muscular shoulder-line has been retained and so is the basic tail light design. The Volvo XC90, as we know is a seven-seat off-roader with four-wheel drive, loads of safety equipment and a large boot. The new model is expected to retain these features for it is what customers want from an SUV of this size.
Another feature on the Volvo XC90 worth mentioning is the rear split folding tail gate. The split tailgate allows for ease of access to the rear loading compartment. This might also make it onto the 2014 model. When the new car will debut is still anyone’s guess. Volvo definitely wants to build a buzz around their next generation XC90 SUV and this probably why they’ve revealed the first renders of the car.
Now, the Volvo XC90 is also available in India. The car comes with a 3.2 litre, six-cylinder petrol and a 4.5 litre V8 petrol engine. A 2.4 litre five-cylinder diesel is also on offer. All models come with all-wheel drive as standard. The new SUV will be based on Volvo’s new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) which is lighter compared to the present platform on which the vehicle is based.
