Cost is one factor automotive companies work overtime to bring down and hence, the Skoda Rapid Sedan featuring the front end of the Skoda Fabia and sharing the rest of the platform with the Volkswagen Vento Sedan is something that is expected to pare down development costs significantly for Skoda India. Even as the Rapid Sedan will make its Indian foray in a couple of days time, Skoda has lined up a gorgeous looker for the Chinese market, the Skoda Mission L concept.
India’s loss seems to be neighbor China’s gain as the Mission L concept will soon become production reality to be positioned between the Skoda Fabia and the Skoda Octavia/Laura in the Chinese market. Essentially, the Mission L concept is a C-segment car designed to occupy the same space as that of the Skoda Rapid Sedan, and by the looks of it, is much more gorgeous than the Rapid, at least in concept form. It would be interesting to see how the production version of the Mission L will turn out though.
The Skoda Mission L concept will be turned into production reality with Skoda China joining hands with Shanghai VW to manufacture the car. This car could also become an offering of Shanghai VW as has been the case of model sharing that Skoda and Volkswagen have favored in the past. Cost considerations aside, would you have preferred the Mission L concept hitting Indian shores as Skoda’s C-segment sedan offering instead of the Rapid Sedan, which decidedly looks a lot more conservative?
