The next generation superbike from the makers of famous Italian red beasts is out. Ducati has taken the wraps off its newest edition superbike at the EICMA 2011 in Milan. It is called the 1199 Panigale and is referred to as the most ambitious project taken up by Ducati in the history of the motorcycle maker. Years of research and development that Ducati engineers have perfected on track has gone into the making of the new Panigale superbike. In the world of superbikes, the focus has always been on power-to-weight ratios. For achieving good power-to-weight ratio, the bike needs to be stripped off any unnecessary weight.
Secondly, the bike has to nimble and its packaging should be as compact as possible. Suspension is also one of the major factors when it comes to flagship superbikes like the Ducati 1199 Panigale. Finally, it is the engine that needs the most attention when developing an all new superbike. A bike that will blow its competition to pieces, a bike that will the rule both the race track and the public roads. Oh, I almost forgot. It is design that brings customers to showrooms. It is the looks of the bike that matter when it comes to marketing the product and this for Ducati hasn’t been to a tough task. Ducati is known for creating some of the most desirable bikes in the world and the new 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale ticks the right checkbox every single time.
Ducati President Gabriele Del Torchio said, “Without doubt, this has been the most ambitious project in Ducati’s history and underlines our engineering excellence and ‘product emotion,’ an aspect of our brand which, in such a competitive market place, has become more important than ever. This motorcycle represents pure Italian style, the reference point for performance and a safety-enhanced, confidence-inspiring experience for our customers on road and track.”
Now, Ducati has released a couple of videos and a huge set of images of the bike. The first thing that strikes me or in fact any one of you is the compact design and the striking looks of the bike. The 1199 Panigale does not have the aggressive slashes and edges like its Japanese rivals but it has this uniquely Ducati look that is second to none. It is just infinitely cool. The new 1199 Panigale is sort of an evolved edition of the 1098. The twin air intakes under the headlights are still there but now the LED head lamps are housed inside the intakes with the cowl surface overlapping them.
