A couple of moths ago, IndianCarsBikes brought you a big exclusive scoop where we interacted with a Bajaj Auto test rider who told us that the Duke 200 would produce up to 28 Bhp. Even as we were quite skeptical about the test rider’s claimed power output of the KTM Duke 200, it turns out that the test rider’s words does have some merit after all. The KTM Duke 200 will produce 26 Bhp of peak power at 10,000 rpm from its 200cc, liquid cooled, DOHC, single cylinder four stroke motor. Now, that much power makes the KTM Duke 200 a serious contender to kick butt, a certain Honda CBR250R’s butt in particular.
This information comes straight from horse’s mouth, KTM itself and so there shouldn’t really be a problem accepting the mammoth power output of over 130 Bhp/liter from the KTM 200cc motor, which from the specs, might be in a highly strung state of tune. The EICMA motorcycle show held at Milan is a very influential motor show where motorcycle manufacturers show their furture offerings for the European and global market. Motorcycle manufacturers also take showgoers’ feedback from the EICMA show quite seriously and the KTM Duke 200 being unveiled at EICMA means that KTM is betting big on the Duke 200.
Show Special KTM Duke 200
The Duke 200, which will sell in multiple markets like India, Malaysia and Brazil with India being the manufacturing hub of the motorcycle will be manufactured by Bajaj Auto. Coming to the technical specifications of the KTM Duke 200, we are simply thrilled at the power to weight ratio the Duke 200 will offer courtesy it’s super light dry weight of 126 kilos. The motor in itself displaces 199.5cc, with a short stroke layout with a bore measuring 72mm allied to a stroke measuring 49mm, which means that revving it up would be a veritable delight.
The torque figure of 20 Nm at 8,000 rpm is another indicator that the KTM Duke 200 will be a rev happy motor that will need to be caned to get the best out of it. Like its 125cc sibling, the fuel injected KTM Duke 200 comes with a trellis frame and meaty upside down front forks that will be a first in class for the Indian market. The motorcycle also features a six speed transmission that will transmit all the power and torque to the meaty 150 section 17 inch rear tyre. The KTM Duke 200 will be unveiled in December his yea with deliveries to begin in early 2012. With a price between INR 1.2-1.4 Lakhs, Bajaj Auto might well set the cat amongst pigeons with the KTM Duke 200. May the good times roll on.
