BENTLEY SUV LAUNCH PLANNED FOR 2014

Bentley top brass has planned the bespoke Bentley SUV for 2014. At present, the developments are in full swing both at the design as well as engineering departments. The new SUV is set to open an all new segment in the luxury end of the spectrum. The new luxury SUV will have hallmark Bentley styling along with interior covered in the finest leather and natural wood trims. The new SUV could be based on Volkswagen’s new MLB modular platform.

The Bentley SUV could share this platform with the next generation Audi Q7. But the similarities between the two end at that as the Bentley will placed much higher in terms of its price compared to the Q7. Bentley officials say, that the Bentley SUV will be placed a segment higher to the Range Rover. It is believed that the new Bentley SUV could be priced around £150,000 which is supercar territory.

Talking of supercars, Aston Martin is also pondering a similar SUV. Aston Martin could revive the Lagonda badge with an all new 4×4 SUV sporting the Lagonda name. This new SUV from Gaydon in the UK will directly rival the Bentley SUV. Bentley top boss, Wolfgang Durheimer also expects to see the Bentley SUV with a diesel engine. The current V12 TDi that Audi use in the Q7 seems to be the ideal contender for this and might feature in the Bentley SUV.

Along with the diesel, the humongous W12 petrol engine from the current Bentley sports coupes and luxury limousines will also go under the hood of the new SUV. We expect power figures to be around 600 horsepower while torques for the diesel engine could peak at around 1000 Nm. Of course, the Bentley SUV with all the creature comforts from a luxury yacht will make it one of the heaviest automobiles around and a powerful and torque engine would become a necessity.
