Yamaha India has pulled the wraps off its first scooter for the Indian market, the Yamaha Ray. This scooter will be targeted mainly at women and resembles the Honda Dio. Built for petite frames, the Ray will be smaller than the other scooters in the market and will be launched in India very soon along with pricing details. The Ray will also have attractive women friendly colors like pink and yellow, to further emphasize on its positioning for the fairer sex. Bollywood actor and Yamaha brand ambassador, John Abraham, was the added attraction at the Yamaha pavilion and that was just another step that Yamaha took to get the fairer sex swooning.
Meanwhile, the Yamaha Ray becomes the second scooter in India, after the Hero Pleasure to be targeted at women. Telescopic forks up front is a nice touch. Yamaha India is planning to bring more scooters into the Indian market in the coming days. So, the scooter segment seems to back in fashion now with many players entering the fray with varied offerings. The ungeared scooter segment has witnessed high growth consistently paving the way for these new launches. Apart from the Ray scooter, the Yamaha pavilion didn’t have anything really “new” to show for, and that includes the Yamaha Fazer 250, which was widely speculated to be Yamaha’s first 250cc offering.
Yamaha plans to invest 800 Crore Rupees in the Indian market for new product development. Meanwhile, here’s word about Yamaha’s future plans by Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO and Managing Director of Yamaha Motor India,
Yamaha has always been a committed player in the two-wheeler market and makes consistent efforts to adapt to market demand by launching exciting products year-on-year. The Indian scooter segment is growing tremendously and we see a lot of potential in this segment. We have developed a scooter prototype that has got the Yamaha DNA and signifies “Cool and Beauty” image, which are the right words for describing young Indian girls. With the launch of our scooter model later this year, Yamaha would now be present across all growing 2-Wheeler segments.
