By noon today, General Motors will unveil the Chevrolet CN100 MPV and the Chevrolet Sail hatchback, that that automaker plans to launch in India sometime soon. The CN100 MPV has originally been manufactured by a Chinese firm called Wuling and is sold in many markets by General Motors by re-branding it as the CN100 MPV. The CN100 is expected to feature the 1.3 Multijet diesel engine that GM jointly developed with Fiat.
The CN100 might be positioned between the Maruti Eeco and the Maruti Ertiga. The other significant unveil will be that of the Chevrolet Sail hatchback which will replace the out of date Aveo U-VA in the Indian market. The Chevrolet Sail is also a product developed at the Chinese market by GM’s Chinese stakeholder SAIC and will be positioned as a B+ segment hatchback taking on the likes of the Swift and the Figo.
While a 1.2 Liter S-TEC petrol engine is a given, about which diesel engine will go into the Sail’s engine bay is something that still needs to be seen. In due course of time, GM India will also launch the Sail sedan in India, car that will replace the Aveo sedan. The unveiling of the Sail sedan won’t happen at the 2012 Auto Expo although plans are afoot for launching the car in India sometime in mid to late 2012.
