DC DESIGN AVANTI SUPERCAR: INDIA’S FIRST SUPERCAR LAUNCHED AT THE 2012 AUTO EXPO!

Whoa! India’s very first supercar with killer and mean looks. That was my reaction when I saw the launch of DC design Avanti Supercar at New Delhi Auto expo. The Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachhan revealed the car to an enthusiastic media contingent. The car’s heart is from ford Eco boost series and it will feature Ford 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 261 bhp.

Later in time, DC will launch a variant with a Honda V6 engine which delivers 400bhp. Both the Ecoboost and Honda engines will be mated with 6 speed dual clutch transmission. An Interesting figure which was revealed during this launch is that the Ford 2 litre eco boost engine will propel the Avanti from 0 – 100 kmph in just 7 secs.
By the way, this car weighs 1560 kg.  Tintin comics fans may also liken the name of this car to the Studebaker Avanti which was an regular in the comic book series. Coming to design of car, the bodyline seems to have plenty of Italian genes in it. Superb aerodynamics with side pockets for creating extra drag force and straight line stability.

That said, it remains to be seen how the the car will handle when it gets going or is pushed hard on real roads. With that, the Avanti sports car has been launched at the 11th Auto Expo with a price tag of Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Designer Dilip Chhabria said and we quote,
We intend to produce 300 units of the Avanti in 2013-2014 and if all goes well, we could ramp up production to go into four figures per annum.
