Nissan’s foray into the Indiam automotive arena may not have gone well with most of their products struggling to match with the segment leaders in terms of sales. This hasn’t dampened their ambitions though. Nissan now plans to introduce the products from their performance division in India. NISMO is to Nissan how AMG is to Mercedes-Benz and ‘M’ is to BMW. The in-house tuning shop at Nissan has been responsible for numerous outrageously fast automobiles.
Nissan already offers the 370Z sports coupe which can be ordered via any Nissan dealership around you. With NISMO coming to India folks with a fetish for speed could place their orders for the more powerful, tuned versions of Nissan sports cars. Still, the entry of Nissan’s performance arm in to the Indian market will only depend on how motorsports evolves in the country.
“India is very important as a car market but I want to see how motorsports evolves in the future in India. I know F1 was conducted in India…So, probably motorsports activity is going to be more popular,” NISMO President Shoichi Miyatani said here.
Nissan is considering various options to enter motorsports including rally and track racing. With brand new infrastructure facilities for motorsports which have already come up in the form of the Buddh International Circuit, Nissan would probably enter a racing series which would travel to India over a weekend. Motorsports has long been seen as an important platform for brand building. This is precisely what Nissan and NISMO have in mind. Nissan also plans to enter other emerging markets in Latin America and China.
NISMO is also known around the globe as a supplier of performance parts. Their recent projects include road cars like 370Z Nismo which gets factory tuned Nissan performance parts and accessories. The 370Z Nismo’s 3.7 litre V6 puts out 350 bhp and 374 Nm. The race-bred machine gets dual exhausts, sport brakes, tuned suspension, 19 inch wheels and other go-faster bits from the NISMO brochure.
