The Toyota Prius can be regarded as the world’s first hybrid car that customers actually accepted as an alternative to their gasoline/ diesel only automobiles. The Prius Hybrid is in its third generation now and Toyota added a second model to the Prius range recently. The Toyota Prius V is a hybrid car designed to cater to the needs of larger families who would prefer a mini-van rather than a notchback. The new kid on the block is the Prius C which is set to debut at the Tokyo Motor show early next month.The Prius C is a B-segment hatchback with a capacious boot and an airy cabin.

The car is powered by Toyota’s 1.5 litre gasoline engine along with a refreshed version of the Hybrid Synergy Drive which uses an electric motor in conjunction with the petrol engine. Toyota has not disclosed the power output of the electric motor, though. Having said that, according to the car maker, the hybrid powertrain on the Prius C delivers an outstanding fuel economy of 50 mpg (21.25 kmpl). Not bad for family hatchback, then. But in the real world, this figure might drop and then you might wonder, even diesel powered cars these days are good for 20+ kmpl then, what’s the big deal about the hybrid?

Well apparently, it produces less greenhouse gasses which in turn is good for the environment. Coming to the aesthetics part, Toyota has been quite successful at designing the Prius range. Somehow, I like the way these cars look. Of course, after seeing latest hatchback they launched in India a few months back, anybody would’ve felt that. But, I genuinely believe that the Prius range looks brilliant. Even the interior is well sorted out. The lower center of gravity has also improved the handling of the car, reports Toyota. Toyota has also released a video of the new Prius C ahead of its official debut which is slated for the Tokyo Motor show which happens in December.
