Jaguar has finally unveiled their latest in the line of sports cars the British brand has ever made. The Jaguar XKR-S Convertible is Jaguar attempt at making a XKR-S volante much like their counterparts at Aston Martin. As you may know, the XKR-S was a souped-up version of the standard XKR sports car. Now, the XKR has a supercharged 5.0 litre V8 that puts out 510 bhp on the XKR-S however, the engine delivers a maximum punch of 550 bhp and a massive 680 Nm of torque.
That is more than enough to catapult the two door sports car from 0-100 kph in under 4.5 sec and on to a top speed of 300 kph. Now, what Jaguar has done is chop the top off its XKR-S Coupe to allow unimpeded access to the glorious music created by the eight cylinders via the quad-exhausts that have been specially tuned for the joy of the occupants. That said, the new convertible gets styling from the XKR-S coupe with subtle body skirts which are designed to go with the theater and performance.
Jaguar engineers have also worked on the aerodynamics of the car and that’s the reason why there is a rear wing at the back. The rear spoiler uses carbon fibre to save weight. Since, we are on the topic of weight, the Jaguar XKR-S convertible is designed in such a way that the best possible weight distribution is achieved. Also, the front and rear end downforce levels have been tweaked for more balanced handling. Earlier versions of the XK suffered from this due to a boot spoiler which created so much downforce that the front end used to go light at speed.
No such issues with the XKR-S convertible, then. The new Jag might not be the fastest, the most agile of the lot but it sure a style icon. A car that looks extremely gorgeous and still manages to go like stink. The new sports convertible will be available in six colours including the famous British Racing Green. The fabric roof which retracts in 18 seconds can also be ordered in six colours with black being standard.
