In a year of back to back natural calamities hitting life and property hard, Japanese automaker Honda’s Thailand factories have been submerged due to the spate of floods that the South East Asian country has experienced. Thailand, which is a regional hub for Honda to source many parts has been hit very hard by the floods which has left over 350 people dead and hundreds missing. These floods have resulted in Honda’s parts supplies being disrupted.
Honda, which follows the just-in-time production process is facing parts shortages across its production units spread out throughout the world , so much so that the Japanese automaker has had to postpone the launch of a very important product, the 2012 Honda CR-V Crossover in the American market, due to the parts shortage caused by the Thai floods. Honda SIEL Cars India is also feeling the pinch and only recently we brought you a report about the Honda Brio and Jazz hatchbacks’ production being disrupted.
The facelifted Honda City Sedan is basically a mid career makeover job with changes mainly on the exteriors to freshen up the Honda City. Features wise, the facelifted Honda City isn’t expected to get much except a few bells and tinkles like the ECO indicator on the instrument console that will guide drivers to drive with a light foot to conserve fuel. Now, the parts shortage could possible delay the facelifted Honda City Sedan’s launch in India.
The launch, which was originally scheduled for mid-November might not happen until the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo. So, it seems like the current versions of the Honda City will continue to motor on until the facelifted model arrives in January 2012. Even so, expect Honda to run out of current Honda City Sedans over the next month or so as critical parts for the current model too are affected by the Thai floods.
