The wait is finally over as Honda took the wraps of its 2012 model Honda CR-V crossover. The excitement over the CR-V is particularly high back home in India since, the crossover will be coming to India and we could see the car probably being showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The CR-V has been in India for quite a while and has been recently losing out to its competition. However, the picture could change over the next year when the Honda CR-V is expected to make its India debut.
Meanwhile, the car was revealed to the media at the Los Angeles International Motor show. The new version is very different than its predecessor and more importantly has grown in size. The looks are typical of Honda and yet its as striking and butch looking as any other SUV. Masculine looks is what the CR-V lacked in the past and the new body-cladding up front does make the SUV look way better than its predecessor. Having said that, the designers have also focused on making the car more aerodynamic.

Inside, there is seating for five and an increased cargo space. Earlier, the larger proportions of the concept did make us believe that it could be a seven seat SUV but then, it was not to be. The rear seats can also be folded 60/40 to increase the overall boot space. Under the hood is a new 2.4 litre i-VTEC engine with 184 horsepower and 163 torques. The power goes to the wheels via a five-speed automatic gearbox. For India, we could see a diesel version coming by. Since, all it has to compete with in India is the Toyota Fortuner which has been eating into the CR-V’s market share.
Honda has fitted the new i-MID (intelligent Multi-Information Display) in the CR-V with Pandora internet radio with SMS text reading function. Even the base LX variant comes equipped with air-con, cruise control, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, i-MID, remote entry, a 160-watt, a 4-speaker audio system, Motion-Adaptive Electric Power Steering (EPS).
