Tata Motors blames higher fuel consumption of the 1.4-liter TDI common-rail turbo diesel five key factors. First, the 1.4 liter turbodiesel engine ECU would be optimized for minimum fuel consumption. Second, Tata engineers working on Indigo 1.4 liters turbodiesel engine extensively to increase fuel economy.
A large number of changes to the engine head, block and pistons for maximum combustion efficiency and reduce friction between moving parts, both of which will contribute to higher fuel consumption number. Third, the Indigo eCS 'aerodynamics would be improved to decrease resistance.

Tata says that the wheel arches have been redesigned and the body was lit for Indigo eCS a little more aerodynamic. Now, while that sounds a bit questionable, then we take that word Tata. Fourth, the ratios of the Indigo eCS been altered for better driveability and economy.
Finally, the Indigo will now eCS tires with low rolling resistance to reduce to an absolute minimum, thus contributing to higher fuel consumption. So, all these changes helped fuel the number of the Indigo Compact Sedan eCS go up by 2 KMPL, 23 to 25 KMPL.
Diesel cars are the flavor of the season and with this high value economy is a big plus for Tata. When asked whether these changes actually translate into an actual increase in sales is something that we learn in the coming months' sales. The Tata Indigo sedan's eCS VX diesel version is available on an ex-showroom Delhi price of INR 5.8 lakhs, while the top petrol version comes at INR 4.97 lakhs.
