BMW’s M5 Diesel coming in October 2012?

BMW has already launched its new sports saloon BMW M5. The new car has switched from a 5.0 liter V10 with a 4.4 liter V8 this time, but still manages to produce more power than its predecessor. The new BMW M5 560 hp and 680 churning of torque, although it has two of its cylinders and 600 cc lost. Just after the M5 was launched there were rumors of a diesel that M5 could see light of day. As days passed, the buzz began to build up the reports of a diesel-powered BMW M5. Now, according to Autocar, BMW is launching a diesel M5 as early next spring.

The report also mentions that the new M5 diesel will be powered by a 3.0 liter inline six-cylinder engine with not one but three turbos. The new system includes a smaller turbo kicks in for the initial boost during starting as two twin-scroll provide the boost once the car picks up speed. Turbo is the choice of many car manufacturers these days as new health and safety regulations call for lower fuel consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

The diesel-powered M5 will not be as powerful as its gasoline cousin, but it will not come as a limp. Capacity of 3.0 liter tri-turbo diesel engine is expected in the range of 500 to 550 hp. Torque figures will jump from 680 Nm to 900 Nm almost can lead to driving the new M5 diesel quite exciting. BMW will also have to consider how the ability to handle the gray bits transferred nearly 1,000 couples, it will not be easy.

This calls for the power transferred to all four wheels instead of the usual rear wheel drive setup. This will be the first time that a four wheel drive BMW M5 will ever be produced. The four wheel drive system is more need than just a marketing gimmick when all the torque under the hood just behind the tires turn to smoke in no-time. BMW is expected to name the new diesel sports saloon as 550dXM. BMW's management feels that an "interesting opportunity" for such a car and thus the development of the product was recorded.

Diesel technology has quickly caught the last time and know-how diesel performance started dripping from the racetrack to the road. Diesel engines power modern race cars the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance races run. The reason for choosing diesel than gasoline, the overall fuel efficiency of diesel. Diesel endurance racing cars had less time to spend in the pits fill juice than petrol cars. Now, diesel-powered cars could not even give petrol cars a run for their money.

The BMW M5 diesel would so kick off a new era of diesel sports saloons that are efficient, without being down on power. We have driven modern diesel cars, especially the German cars and have always imagined them over gasoline powered vehicles with similar specifications. Diesel cars are no longer boring and in India they make much more sense than a comparable gasoline-powered sports car. Indians are not satisfied with a diesel M5 welcome more than anyone else.
