A month ago, Team IndianCarsBikes received information from a certain Mr M, who is connected with the Mahindra XUV500 Global SUV project, that the launch of the XUV500 SUV could tentatively happen on the 22nd of September 2011. This information was corroborated to be true by another source at Mahindra. However, there seems to be small change in the date of the launch.
While the Mahindra XUV500 SUV will indeed launch in September, it will be on the 28th of September, rather than the 22nd. This news comes on the back of Mahindra just unveiling the brand new name for their Global SUV to be XUV500. All yesterday, there has been a lot of confusion regarding the launch date of the Mahindra XUV500 SUV.
Many media outlets have been reporting that the Mahindra XUV500 SUV will be launched at the end of this year, which is not the case as we now have the launch date with us. This apart, we also have a few more juicy details about the Mahindra XUV500 SUV, which will be priced between the Mahindra Scorpio and the Toyota Fortuner.

Mahindra also plans to launch the XUV500 Global SUV simultaneously in both India and South Africa, after which a phased launch will occur globally. The Mahindra XUV500 SUV will be powered by a 2.2 Liter CRDe turbo diesel engine, the same engine that powered the Scorpio SUV. albeit with a higher power and torque rating.
The 2.2 Liter engine in the XUV500 Global SUV will produce a peak power of 140 Bhp and a peak torque of 326 Nm. The XUV500 XUV will be capable of seating seven adults and represents Mahindra’s first ever vehicle on a monocoque platform. Right from the outset, the Mahindra XUV500 will be available in both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive variants. Also, the Mahindra XUV500 Global SUV represents a dramatic leap for the automaker.
This, as the SUV will incorporate a rash of new technologies like traction control, hill descent control and electronic stability program, technologies which hitherto have been unseen in Mahindra’s vehicle range thus far. The Mahindra XUV500 Global SUV’s entry level variant will be priced just above the Mahindra Scorpio”s highest variant.
