All along, we’ve been carrying images of the North American version of the 2012 Toyota Camry. Now, we have just gotten our hands on images of the 2012 Toyota Camry that will be sold in other markets as well, including India albeit with a higher dose of chrome specifically for India. Toyota Kirloskar Motors could launch the 2012 Toyota Camry Sedan in India sometime during next year with a preview at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo. The 2012 model of the Toyota Camry Sedan is the 7th generation model of the highly successful car that has been around since 1982.

The looks of the 2012 Toyota Camry Sedan are the first thing that one will notice. While the previous model has more rounded looks, the new Camry looks to be inspired by the Euro styling of the Honda Accord with more edges in the designs to lend definition to the car’s overall appearance. The 2012 Toyota Camry Sedan comes with a more responsive and fuel efficient 2.5 Liter dual VVT-i four cylinder petrol engine that produces 180 Bhp and 231 Nm.

Another major change is the 6 speed automatic gearbox, which adds a cog more when compared to the 5 speed autobox of the existing version. Internationally, the 2012 Toyota Camry has dumped the manual transmission and it would be interesting to see whether Toyota India also will follow suit. The 2012 Camry is also an upgrade from the 6th generation version in terms of the overall interior quality and the space on offer. In fact, the rear seat of the 2012 Camry offers more space than the outgoing version.

The wheelbase of the new Camry however remains the same as that of the previous model. Therefore, it seems that Toyota has resorted to some clever packaging to increase space at the rear. Toyota, for its part claims that the 2012 Camry comes with 90% of its parts re-engineered. Therefore, the 2012 Camry in essence it is an all new car. However, Toyota is still not offering the Camry in diesel guise and this is one major reason why the car hasn’t rally captured the imagination of buyers both in the European as well as the Indian market. So, until the diesel arrives, we don’t really see Camry sales taking off in India even if Toyota Kirloskar Motors does launch the 2012 Camry early next year.
