The Fiat Bravo Hatchback doesn’t make an iota of sense for a country like India as a volumes puller, where hatchbacks are seen more as frugal and inexpensive family cars. However, the Bravo Hatchback might very well fit into the role of a brand builder showcasing Fiat’s strengths in making high performance hatchbacks. Perhaps, this is one reason why Fiat India might launch the Bravo in India even as it struggles to sell its other mainstream offerings like the Linea Sedan and Grande Punto Hatchback.
Like the Fiat 500, the Fiat Bravo Hatchback could in all probability be brought to India as a completely built unit, to retail at a hefty INR 16-18 Lakhs rupees. Although there has been some talk about the Fiat Bravo being launched in India during 2012, there hasn’t been any real indication from Fiat India regarding the Bravo’s launch even though Bravo Hatchbacks continue to be spotted in India doing duty mostly as a means of transport for Fiat India officials.
Fiat Bravo
The Fiat Bravo Hatchback is a five door car with room for four adults although five can be squeezed in. Engine options of the Bravo comprise of both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol mill is the same 1.4 Liter T-Jet engine that the Linea T-Jet comes with while the diesel engine is a 1.9 Liter Multijet unit which produces 150 Bhp and 305 Nm. So, the engines reaffirm the hot hatch credentials of the Bravo even as the sporty handling dynamics will ensure that the Bravo has a small but cult following.
The key question however is this: If indeed Fiat India is planning to launch the Bravo in India as a brand builder, is this move necessary at a time when they could rather as well be working on marketing their existing range of products better. Watch this space!
