Garware Hyosung’s third and the latest product yet for the Indian market, the Hyosung GT650N has just been launched. With this motorcycle, Garware-Hyosung hopes to take the fight up to the Kawasaki Ninja 650R, which upstaged Garware-Hyosung’s GT650R quite comprehensively when Bajaj launched the Ninja 650R at a killer price tag of INR 4.57 Lakhs, nearly a full 40,ooo rupees lesser than the Hyosung GT650R. Payback time it is for Garware-Hyosung and what a way to come back, with a superbly priced product in the naked Hyosung GT650N.
The Hyosung GT650N has been priced at INR 4.39 Lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, which is a superb job indeed by Garware-Hyosung considering that the difference in dollar terms between the Hyosung Gt650R and the GT650N is only $1000. The model that Garware-Hyosung have launched today is the 2012 model, which is also on sale in the United States. Unlike the previous naked versions of the GT650R, the 2012 Hyosung GT650N comes with a new headlamp, reminiscent of the Yamaha FZ16 and with a brand new instrumentation console compared to the twin pod layouts of the former GT650N.
The GT650N also has more relaxed ergonomics, that is the handlebar-footpeg positions, to ensure that the riding position is more relaxed for better comfort over longer journeys. These changes and the lower price apart, the 2012 Hyosung GT650N is virtually the same motorcycle as the Hyosung GT650R when it comes to the engine specifications. The GT650N retains the 650cc, V-Twin engine that operates on 8 valves and a DOHC layout. The Suzuki GV650 derived engine that is capable of producing 72 Bhp of peak power is liquid cooled and fuel injected.
Suspension parts include upside down forks up front with a monoshock unit at the rear. The motorcycle weighs a portly 196 Kg and offers a twin disc layout in front and a single disc at the rear for braking. A nought to hundred sprint in five seconds and a top speed of 200 Kph is what the GT650N will offer. But don’t expect those speeds to be a very comfortable affair as the missing fly screen up front will mean that winds will batter your body ever time the speedometer inches above the 140 Kph mark. So, the lack of the fly screen will affect the touring cred of the GT650N quite significantly. Even so, the motorcycle is very good value at INR 4.39 Lakhs and might appeal to those for whom the Kawasaki Ninja 65oR is simply too bland and commuter-ish.
