Porsche has officially revealed the new generation of the 911 family of sports coupes. German sportscar makers at Porsche have made substantial changes to the new 911 this times around. Still, the car retains the classic coupe form with the iconic shape that has been associated with the 911 since decades. Porsche has now released the first official images of the car after a few of those leaked over the internet last week.
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera
The new Porsche 911 will be the corner stone of the Frankfurt motor show later next month. It is one of the most anticipated launches of the year and is expected to attract hoards to the Porsche gallery at Frankfurt. The new Porsche 911 991-generation is both longer and wider than the model it replaces. The engine is still at the back with the boot up front, a characteristic of all 911′s of the past. The powerplants have also been revised too.
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S
The 2012 Porsche 911 will be offered in two variants to start with. The base Carrera gets a 3.4 litre flat-six with 350 horsepower and the Carrera S packs in 400 horsepower from a 3.5 litre version of the flat-six motor. The base Carrera will be priced at 82,100 USD and 96,400 USD for the Carrera S. The new Porsche is lighter, thanks to the aluminium and steel construction thus increasing the power-t0-weight figures.

Porsche will also debut a new transmission on the 2012 Porsche 911 with a unique seven-speed manual setup. Some have criticized this even before trying it out first hand however, Porsche will sell an optional PDK dual-clutch gearbox for those who don’t fancy jumping over seven ratios while on the move. With the new gearbox and the new engines the Carrera manages to go from 0-100kph in 4.4 sec while the 400 bhp Carrera S does covers the same in 4.1 sec.

We are as much excited as you are to know more about the new Porsche 911s and more curious about the upcoming versions of the 2011 Porsche 911. Inevitably, Porsche will make a turbocharged version. Also in line will be a GT3 and a GT3 RS. The performance figures of the base variant itself being so astonishing, we could only guess how the Turbo would feel like.
